Part of being a New Yorker means having to find your way literally among 8 million other people, day in and day out. Subway can be tricky. Sometimes it's fun (for new comers), sometimes it's intimidating, most of the time it's suffocating. I, like everybody else commuting via subway, have a love-hate-relationship with it.
The truth is it could be overwhelming sometimes, but at the same time fascinating. I then found myself weirdly meditating either while riding the train or waiting at the platform. It's quite inspiring sometimes, the spectrum of people you would encounter during a subway trip. So then I started writing down thoughts while commuting. It started out first as a meditative activity I do for myself. I figured this new way of killing time to be actually entertaining and relieving.
Don't get me wrong, subway is definitely not the most contemplative place on Earth (probably the grossest) to get introspective, and I don't always have something on my mind. But I encourage myself to let my mind be relaxed, and jot down the thoughts as raw as possible. I shared them with some of my friends and loved ones and they think it's a good idea that I'd share them on my blog.
I guess it's just my attempt to connect with the world, while trying to understand it. Perhaps you would find them interesting, boring, refreshing, repetitive, however you might feel, I hope to have triggered some kind of emotional response. After all, these are not meant to be inspiring, or anything like that. It's just a college girl's thoughts on train. Enjoy.
